Mason is very well behaved!

HFAF Winter Fayre and Open Day

On Sunday 20th November from 12pm to 3pm we once again opened our doors at 402 Finchley Road, London NW2 2HR not only to promote our Fraternity but also to provide an enjoyable day out for members and visitors. Lots of lovely goods were on sale and there was the customary Fortitude cafe providing hot drinks and bagels.

There’s no doubting what the star attraction was this year. It’s this handsome chap who has been named Mason, what else? Our members have raised funds to pay for his training as a Medical Detection Dog. He has grown somewhat since the first picture was taken but a team from the Charity were there on Sunday with Mason and we were delighted to present a cheque to the Charity.

Calahonda 53 supporting DEBRA in Spain

The charity DEBRA works to provide care for children afflicted by an incurable condition known as  Butterfly Children. This extremely painful condition necessitates 24/7 care , not least in the daily task of bandaging the children.

In Spain there is virtually no state assistance and sufferers and their parents are dependent on the nurses provided by this charity who provide care and guidance.

Calahonda Lodge No. 53 under the leadership of WM Jan Owens have raised over 2200 euros so far and will continue to support them throughout the coming year. They were delighted to make a presentation to the Charity this summer

Grand Lodge visits Gibraltar

Grand Master Christine Chapman was more than happy to take a special meeting of Grand Lodge to Gibraltar to coincide with the HFAF anual visit to the Rock. The meeting was held to allow Bro Yvette Sanguinetti to be examined in the Master’s work to qualify her to take the Master’s Chair next year and to present two members of Gibraltar 47 and two members of Calahonda 53 to the Grand Master in the customary manner. The Grand Master suggested this meeting as she realised that brethren from Spain and Gibraltar were not always able to visit London at the required times.

This special meeting was followed by the annual Installation meeting at which W Bro Marion Brown installed her successor W Bro Alexandra Schumann. For the past few years members of Calahonda 53 have supported Gibraltar 46 by taking office in both lodges.

This was a groundbreaking event for HFAF and thanks to the forward thinking Province of Sussex (UGLE) we received several enquiries about potential membership and much interest was shown in our organisation.
